Boosting Storage Space in the Garage

Part of the challenge when trying to get organized in the garage is finding enough room to store all of your items. Because of the lack of storage inside most houses these days, more and more people are using garage storage units to hold their excess items. If you are looking to increase the amount of storage space you have, there are some easy ways to do it but it is not practical and can often times cost more money.

Some people will back their car in the driveway in order to get storage units installed on the garage walls that might not have otherwise fit with the cars in place. Others will turn to sheds or storage facilities to store their items but those cost money and then the items are not close by.

If you are looking for ways to boost your space for storage, one of the best ways is by installing overhead garage storage units. These units are installed to the ceiling or rafters in the garage and are a great way to double to triple the amount of storage space that you have to work with.

The units will range anywhere from 2' x 2' to as large as 4' x 8'. What is nice about these units are that because the heights can be adjusted, they can be installed either over the garage door tracks or in the space between the tracks and the back wall of the garage.

Keep in mind when you are shopping for units that the more flexibility that it offers, the likelier you are to be able to store more items inside. For example, with garage cabinets, you may have the choice of going with a solid or adjustable shelf. Having a shelf that can be moved to different locations allows you to store items of different heights giving you the ability to store more items inside of the unit.
