The Graveyard Shift- How to Stay Awake

Have you ever worked on a graveyard shift? Where you have to work instead clinging to your soft bed? Though, it was never easy working in a late night shift but sometimes we are forced to take another job to make up the everyday expenses. If we have two jobs a day, we are being deprived the necessity of sleep. Not to mention the other responsibilities at home and extra activities like going out with friends partying. Do you still have energy left to perform effectively at work? It’s hard but we have no choice, we need to work hard to sustain our financial needs. Here are some tips how to stay awake at work.

  1. Time management. Plan your activities for the day and strictly follow it. Go out with friends only if it’s your off tomorrow. You don’t want to work with hangover from last night party. Share house responsibilities with your spouse. It’s just a matter how you divide your time and setting priorities.
  2. Divert your thoughts from bed to something mind stimulating. Instead of aggravating your agony of longing for soft bed think of something funny.
  3. Do small exercise. Stretch your arms and legs. If there is a stairwell try to walk up and down the stairs for a couple of times. This will help the circulation of your blood and increase alertness.
  4. Talk with your co-workers. Start a conversation with your colleagues at work and ask them to help you out to engage your mind.
  5. Be busy. Do something productive with your spare time. Think of something to occupy your time instead of wasting it thinking how to sneak a short nap. It will give you an opportunity of getting a commendation from your employer.
  6. Drink coffee. The common strategy to avoid falling asleep at work. The caffeine content of the coffee is the responsible why coffee makes us alert. To attain the best effect of coffee spread it out slowly over the day because if you take large amount quickly it will make you more tired later.
  7. Use a Nap Zapper alarm device which wakes you up if you start to nod off to sleep.

There are a lot of ways to stay awake to perform efficiently and effectively. These tips are subjective because there are ways that might not work with one person but work with another person. If you want to accomplish something help yourself. Have the will and determination with everything you do.
